TL;DR

- Tourism and destination travel has grown exponentially over the last several years.

- I've served on the Strategic Tourism Planning Committee for the last 5 years as a Legislator and community partner.

- Our biggest opportunity to grow during a global pandemic is to promote our local businesses to local and regional residents. Slowly expanding out to interstate and urban markets to encourage travel to our city.

Revenue through Tourism and Destination Marketing 

The North Country Chamber of Commerce has been a driving factor to attract travelers, businesses, and investors to our community. Each year, the leadership team at the Chamber develops and presents a marketing plan to the county that outlines their efforts, successes, and focus for the year.


In addition to the work our Chamber is doing, we have a rich history and a story to tell. This story will help shape our identity, our soul, and why people are attracted to our community. The Clinton County Historical Association will be a driving force behind telling this story. As they're in the process of developing a plan for the Old Base Museum Campus, this organization will help drive tourism and attraction to our region.

Over the last five years, I've been actively working with the Chamber, as a member of their Strategic Tourism Planning Committee. As such I've helped shape the goals of regional tourism, secured funding for the chamber's marketing efforts, and have an intimate working expertise in tourism and how to grow tourism in our region.

Our Plan

Continuing this momentum and even responsibly doubling down on our efforts will only make us better. The work our Chamber is doing will continue to propel us forward. It will also ensure we're setup for growth, attraction, and an improved quality of life.

  • Continue the city's partnership with the Chamber as a member of the Strategic Tourism Planning Board.
    Currently, the City of Plattsburgh Community Development office has a seat at the table when it comes to developing tourism and destination marketing for our city. Ensuring we retain that seat is crucial for us to have a voice in this conversation.

  • Improve marketing in partnership with the Chamber for regional, national, and international sporting events.
    The Chamber of Commerce currently has at least two fishing tournaments and one watercross event coming to our city for 2021. To highlight our waterfront and our beautiful city, we will partner with the chamber to help promote and market these events.
    We'll also partner with area hotels and city based business and restaurants to ensure when visitors come to our city for these internationally recognized events we can effectively promote our city's vast diversity of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

  • Develop a strong working partnership with the Clinton County Historical Association and the Old Base Museum Campus.
    History is a resource we can and should leverage to attract people to our community. As we've seen with the Battle of Plattsburgh, our military and foundation in American history is our fabric - it will help create attraction as well as continue to develop our story and our quality of life.​
